  • Number of shifts expected to be covered by locums? Will vary
  • Is the locums need is short-term (2-6 months) or long-term (6+ months)? 2-6 months
  • Is your need specific to days, nights, swing shifts, or flexible? Need is flexible
  • Will nocturnist candidates be considered? Yes
  • Consider candidates that only want weekends? Yes
  • Consider candidates who need to travel? Yes

Program details
  • Shift Times: 7a-7p; 7p-7a
  • How many MD’s/Mid-levels during the day? Single MD coverage
  • How many MD’s/Mid-levels during the night? Single MD coverage
  • How long is credentialing? 3+ months
  • Temp/Emergency Privileges granted? Yes if file is clean
Clinical details
  • Who responds to codes, EM or HM? Currently PEDs EM docs, this is transitioning over to HM peds, official transition date TBD
  • Will locum providers respond to codes? Yes once the neonatal code coverage transitions over to the pediatric hospitalists
  • What procedures are required of locums? include lumbar punctures and simple incisions and drainage
  • What is the total census per provider during the day? census for a sole provider is up to 12.  After 12 patients, a back-up physician is called in
  • How many of those are admissions during day? average number of admissions during the day is 5 to 6
  • How many admissions per night, on average? average number of admissions during the night is 3 to 4.
  • What is the total census covered at night? total census includes the pediatric floor as well as calls from the inpatient psychiatric unit
  • Is beeper call required? Y
    • If yes, how many average calls per night and how many times per month are they called into the hospital at night on average?
  • Is it an open ICU? Yes
  • Do you have Intensivists? 2 intensivists who mainly manage the ICU.
  • What subspecialty back-up is available? Neurology, Infectious Disease, GI, Endocrine (by phone), Peds Surgery, and Ortho.
