Who will arrange my travel?

SMART’s internal travel team provides concierge-level travel service and support. We handle all travel accommodations for our locum tenens clinicians and save our clients time and effort by handling a range of administrative tasks.

How long is the assignment?

The need varies greatly across our opportunities. Your dedicated recruitment team will review each opportunity and work with you to make sure the position is the right fit.

How are we paid?

Clinicians are paid electronically via direct deposit every two weeks after their shifts are worked. SMART clinicians are paid as independent contractors.

How do taxes work?

We strongly suggest that you work with a CPA to maximize the tax benefits of being an independent contractor.

Can locum tenens convert to a full-time position?

Yes. Locum tenens clinicians start off on an hourly contract, but there is often the opportunity to convert to a permanent role if it’s a good fit.

Who covers professional liability or malpractice insurance?

For clinicians on assignment, SMART covers malpractice insurance, i.e., claims-made with tail. For additional details, talk to your SMART professional point of contact.

What’s the minimum or maximum length of coverage that can be requested?

There is no minimum requirement or maximum duration. You can request staffing for the length of time that you need.

The time required to place a locum tenens clinician varies by specialty and need. We work urgently to fill your needs and our dedicated recruitment and credentialing teams ensure that every step is completed quickly.
